Sedation Dentistry

Calm care for anxious patients

If the dentist's office makes you nervous — or if you've avoided care for years because of fear — we offer multiple sedation options to make your visit genuinely comfortable.

Why it matters

Dental anxiety is real. We get it.

Up to one in five adults avoids dental care because of fear. We see this every day, and we've built our practice around making sedation simple, safe, and stigma-free. There's nothing weak about needing help to relax — it's smart, and we're glad you're here.

Dr. Jim Ervil leads our sedation program with formal anesthesia residency training and active certifications in ACLS, PALS, and BLS. That means we can offer a fuller range of sedation options than most general practices — including IV sedation and general anesthesia when appropriate.

How we help

Our approach to sedation dentistry

Nitrous Oxide

Laughing gas — a mild, fast-acting option that takes the edge off and wears off in minutes. You can drive home after.

IV Sedation

Deeper sedation administered through an IV — most patients remember little to nothing. Monitored by trained staff throughout.

General Anesthesia

Full general anesthesia for complex cases, special needs patients, or those with severe dental phobia.

Special Needs Care

Compassionate care for patients with autism, IDD, dementia, or other conditions that make routine dentistry difficult.

FAQ

Common questions

Is sedation dentistry safe?
Yes, when administered by properly trained providers. Dr. Ervil has formal anesthesia residency training and our team is certified in advanced life support. We monitor every sedated patient continuously throughout the procedure.
Will I be unconscious?
It depends on the level. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation keep you awake but very relaxed. IV sedation puts most patients in a deeply relaxed twilight state — you may not remember the visit. General anesthesia is full unconsciousness.
Can I drive myself home?
After nitrous oxide, yes — it wears off in 5–10 minutes. After oral sedation, IV sedation, or general anesthesia, you'll need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for a few hours.
Is sedation covered by insurance?
Medical-grade sedation (IV and general anesthesia) is sometimes covered when medically necessary — for example, in special needs cases or when extensive surgery is required. We'll check your coverage and explain your costs upfront.
